The Pink City in a weekend: Romanesque heritage, South-West cuisine and a space adventure.
Two days in the Pink City, where local fired brick gives the facades a tone that shifts with the light. The trip opens on the Place du Capitole and its eight-column facade, then the basilica of Saint-Sernin, the largest Romanesque church in Europe and a major stop on the Santiago pilgrimage, with its five-tier bell tower. The banks of the Garonne between the Pont-Neuf and the Prairie des Filtres offer the city's finest sunset, before the Canal du Midi and its century-old plane trees, Riquet's UNESCO-listed engineering feat, then the Cite de l'Espace. The Capitole's Salle des Illustres can be visited free on weekdays. Allow a full half-day for the Cite de l'Espace, out on the eastern edge of town and served by bus.
