Paris: Street Art and Urban Culture
Alternative Paris: giant murals, street art galleries and creative districts from Belleville to the 13th arrondissement.
Two days on foot through the Paris of murals and community spaces, well away from the great museums. The route starts on Rue Denoyez in Belleville, a street-gallery whose walls are constantly repainted, then Boulevard Paris 13, an open-air museum where some thirty buildings in the thirteenth arrondissement carry monumental works by Obey, Inti and Seth. The Marais and its contemporary art galleries, La Recyclerie in a former station on the Petite Ceinture railway with its urban farm, then the Canal Saint-Martin and its locks close the walk. Street art is ephemeral: some murals named here will have gone and others appeared, which is the point. The thirteenth is easily walked from Olympiades metro station, allow three hours.
