Two days in Dijon, capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, whose medieval centre is UNESCO listed as part of the Climats vineyard landscape. The trip opens at the Palace of the Dukes, the Philippe le Bon tower and the fine arts museum housed in the former ducal kitchens, then the Fallot mustard works, the last house still grinding on stone millwheels. The Owl Trail, twenty-two stages marked by bronze arrows set into the pavement, reveals the hidden heritage; the Baltard-style covered market and the Rue de la Liberte complete the city. The Route des Grands Crus begins fifteen minutes away at Gevrey-Chambertin. The fine arts museum is free. Touching the owl on the church of Notre-Dame with your left hand brings luck, according to Dijon tradition.
