Coastal Corsica Road Trip: Ajaccio to Bonifacio

Five days along Corsica's west and south coasts, from Ajaccio to Bonifacio. The route starts at Ajaccio, Napoleon's birthplace, with the Fesch museum and its harbour market, follows the Calanques de Piana, red granite formations on the World Heritage list which the road crosses as a cliff cornice, then Cargese and its Greek village, Propriano on the Gulf of Valinco near the prehistoric site of Filitosa, Sartene which Merimee called the most Corsican of Corsican towns, and finally Bonifacio with its citadel set on limestone cliffs undercut by the sea. The Piana corniche is narrow, cut into the cliff and often blocked by coaches: drive it early or late in the day, when the light is also far better.
