Burgundy: The Grand Crus Road
From Dijon to Santenay, 60 km through the world's most prestigious vineyards.
Three days on Burgundy's Route des Grands Crus, nicknamed the "Champs-Élysées of Burgundy". From Dijon to Beaune, the route crosses villages with legendary names — Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Pommard — where every plot, or "climat", is UNESCO-listed. It's an insider's journey of cellar tastings, dry-stone walls and vineyards stretching to the horizon. Book tastings at the estates, often by appointment, and nominate a sober driver. September's harvest brings a unique atmosphere but heavy crowds; spring is quieter. Beaune and its Hospices, a Gothic gem, deserve a half-day of their own.
