Alsace by Bike through Vineyards
From Strasbourg to Eguisheim, cycle the Alsace Wine Route past half-timbered villages, winstubs, and Riesling hillsides.
Three days by bike on the Alsace wine route, from Strasbourg to Eguisheim, across one of the best-equipped cycling networks in France. The route leaves Strasbourg's Petite France, reaches Obernai and its market square at the foot of the first vines, then Ribeauville, overlooked by three ruined castles and flanked by the Geisberg and Kirchberg grands crus, before Colmar and its Unterlinden museum, and finally Eguisheim, a circular village built in a spiral around its castle. The terrain rolls without being hard: the slopes impose a few short climbs. Most estates welcome visitors without an appointment, but spit or go easy if you are riding. The harvest, from late September into October, fills the tracks with tractors and trailers.
