Village home to Burgundy's greatest wines.

The wine

At the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée embodies the very summit of the Burgundian hierarchy — a village where eight Grands Crus succeed one another across a few hectares of golden slopes. AOC since the decree of September 11, 1936, the appellation is dedicated to Pinot Noir and shelters among its Grands Crus the most mythical names in world viticulture: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, La Romanée, La Grande Rue, Échezeaux, and Grands-Échezeaux — four of them monopoles owned by a single estate. The wines, of pure ruby colour, unfurl on the nose with vivid aromas of strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant that turn to leather and undergrowth over the years. The tannic, powerful, velvety palate calls for five to fifteen years of cellaring to reveal its full breadth. Serve at fourteen to sixteen degrees with feathered game, a dry-aged côte de bœuf, or a well-aged soft cheese such as Époisses.
