Voie Bleue: Moselle to Saone Greenway
A 700 km cycling route between Lorraine and Burgundy, along the Moselle, Saone, and their canals.
La Voie Bleue follows the Moselle and then the Saône over seven days of cycling, from the Vosges massif to Burgundy. Tracing the water, the route strings together Épinal, Charmes, Nancy with its UNESCO-listed Place Stanislas, Langres and its ramparts, Gray, and on to Chalon-sur-Saône. Almost entirely on greenways and towpaths, the trail is flat and suits families as well as occasional cyclists. It's a peaceful journey among art towns, locks and riverside villages. Reckon on 40 to 60 km a day, with no real difficulty. The fine months from May to September are the most pleasant; remember to book accommodation and pack a picnic for the riverbanks.
