Velodyssee: Atlantic Coast
From La Rochelle to Bayonne, France's longest cycle route follows the Atlantic coast past islands, pine forests, and wild beaches.
Seven days by bike on La Vélodyssée, France's longest cycle route, along the Atlantic coast. This section links La Rochelle to the Île de Ré, Royan, the Lacanau beaches and Arcachon Bay crowned by the Pilat dune. Mostly on safe cycle paths through pine forests and seaside resorts, the route is flat and accessible to all. It's a journey of sea spray and sand, punctuated by swims and oyster tastings. Reckon on 40 to 70 km a day. Spring and summer are ideal; book lodging early in season, as the Atlantic coast is very popular. The prevailing west wind is best taken at your back.
