Lot Valley by Bike
From Cahors to Villeneuve-sur-Lot following the Lot's meanders, through Cahors vineyards, perched villages, and limestone cliffs.
Three days by bike through the Lot valley, from Cahors to Villeneuve-sur-Lot, following the river's deeply incised meanders. The route starts in Cahors with its three-towered Pont Valentre, a fourteenth-century masterpiece now UNESCO listed, then Luzech set on a peninsula formed by a loop of the Lot, Puy-l'Eveque terraced in an amphitheatre above the water, Fumel near the castle of Bonaguil, and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a royal bastide known for its prunes. This is a ride through malbec vineyards and limestone cliffs. The route relies largely on quiet departmental roads rather than continuous greenways, with a few sharp climbs out of the meanders, so low gearing is welcome.
