Moselle Valley by Bike
From Metz to Thionville and beyond, cycle along the Moselle past vineyards, fortified villages, and converted industrial heritage.
Three days by bike in the Moselle valley, between heritage and industrial reinvention. The route starts in Metz, at the Centre Pompidou-Metz and the cathedral of Saint-Etienne with its Chagall windows, reaches Ancy-sur-Moselle and the terraced slopes of the cotes de Moselle appellation, a vineyard that nearly vanished and has been replanted since the 1980s, then Pont-a-Mousson and its Premontres abbey, Thionville and its medieval Tour aux Puces, and finally Schengen, the three-country crossroads where the 1985 agreement was signed aboard a boat. The route follows the Charles-le-Temeraire cycleway, mostly flat and on dedicated paths beside the water. The return is easy by regional train, as the Metz-Thionville-Luxembourg line takes assembled bikes.
