WWI Remembrance: Somme and Artois
Following the traces of the Great War: memorials, trenches and cemeteries of the Somme and Artois.
Three days across the battlefields of the Great War, in the Somme and the Artois. The route links the Historial in Péronne, the Franco-British memorial at Thiepval, the La Boisselle mine crater, the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette necropolis — France's largest military cemetery — and the Canadian memorial at Vimy. It's a poignant journey of memory, across land still scarred by the fighting of 1914-1918. Allow time and perspective: the emotional weight of these sites calls for reflection rather than quick sightseeing. The November commemorations draw crowds; the rest of the year stays peaceful. An educational itinerary to share as a family, preparing younger visitors for what they will see.
