Medoc by Bike: Castle Wine Route
Cycle between the greatest Bordeaux wine estates, from castle to castle, through the Medoc vineyards to the Pointe de Grave.
Three days by bike on the Médoc Route des Châteaux, north of Bordeaux. The route follows the classified grands crus, from Margaux to Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, between prestigious estates and rows of vines stretching to the horizon. The terrain is flat, ideal for gentle touring punctuated by tastings — book them ahead, as many châteaux visit by appointment, and go easy if you're cycling. It's a journey where wine heritage meets the landscape of the Gironde estuary, the largest in Europe. Spring and autumn (harvest) are most pleasant. Reckon on 30 to 50 km a day and bring a way to carry a few bottles.
