Isere Valley by Bike: Grenoble to Albertville

Three days by bike from Grenoble to Albertville along the Gresivaudan greenway, a flat corridor framed by two very different massifs. The route starts in Grenoble, capital of the Alps, with its Bastille cable car and riverside quays, reaches Crolles facing the Dent de Crolles and the Chartreuse cliffs, then Pontcharra and the chateau Bayard, birthplace of the knight without fear or reproach, Montmelian and its Savoie appellation vineyard at the confluence of the Isere and the Arc, and finally Albertville with the remarkably preserved medieval town of Conflans and the 1992 Olympic site. The greenway is almost entirely traffic-free and flat throughout: one of the few Alpine routes accessible without training. Belledonne to the east, Chartreuse to the west.
