Pink Granite Coast: Ploumanac'h Hiking Circuits

Three days of hiking around Ploumanac'h, over a chaos of pink granite three hundred million years old, eroded into shapes that local tradition has named the die, the bottle and Napoleon's hat. The route links Ploumanac'h and its Mean Ruz lighthouse built from the same pink stone, the customs officers' path, the stretch of the GR34 reckoned the most photogenic in Brittany, the Ile Renote reachable on foot across an isthmus, the Sept-Iles, France's first bird reserve created in 1912 and the country's main colony of gannets and puffins, and finally Tregastel and its aquarium set beneath the rocks. The Sept-Iles boat leaves from Perros-Guirec and only lands on the Ile aux Moines, outside the nesting season.
