Four days to make volcanism understandable to children, in a range where it is visible to the naked eye. Vulcania opens the trip with its four-dimensional films and immersive attractions, then the Puy de Dome is reached by rack railway, with the remains of the temple of Mercury and paragliders launching from the summit. Lac Pavin, a perfectly circular crater, can be walked around in an easy hour; the Aventure Michelin tells the story of the tyre and of Bibendum interactively, and Saint-Nectaire adds the Cornadore caves, its petrifying springs and a cheese-ripening cellar. Vulcania needs a full day and should be booked online. The summit of the Puy de Dome is windy and ten degrees cooler than the valley, even in August.
