Canal de Garonne by Bike
From Toulouse to Bordeaux along the Canal de Garonne, through century-old plane trees, bastide towns, and vineyards.
Five days by bike on the Garonne Canal, the extension of the Canal du Midi towards the Atlantic. The flat, plane-shaded towpath links Toulouse to Moissac and its UNESCO-listed Romanesque cloister, Agen and its famous canal bridge, then Marmande. It's gentle, indulgent touring across the South-West: orchards, markets, bastides and specialities (prunes, chasselas grapes, foie gras). Ideal for a first big bike ride, with no climbs, whether family or solo. Reckon on 40 to 60 km a day. Spring and autumn offer the best temperatures, as summer is hot in the valley.
